1\/2 a day at work and it was time to get away and wind down from it all. We departed Perth and headed Toodyay Rd, turning left onto O’Brien Rd. I’d been wanting for quite a long time to visit the Peter Brock memorial, and whilst it was crap weather it was well worth the drive out.<\/p>\n

Continuing on we turned into the Walyunga National Park. Great little lookout that was unfortunately marred by the weather, however it still beat the hell out of sitting at home.<\/p>\n

Looking down to the river. There’s also a fairly substantial train line running parallel.<\/p><\/div>\n

Good views across the valley. A really nice day and you’d get some fantastic pictures I reckon.<\/p><\/div>\n

Coming back onto O’Briens Rd I noticed that the little creek had a good flow of water running through it.<\/p>\n

Taking the back roads skirting around the Walyunga N.P, there was a number of places with some great views. There is a new estate being built at the moment. Wouldn’t be a bad place to set-up I reckon.<\/p>\n

Coming out onto the Great Northern Hwy, it was a quick run north to Bullsbrook where we turned right onto Chittering Rd. The surrounding country side was looking very green after the latest rains, and a few of the rivers\/creeks were up a tad.<\/p>\n

Arriving at Toodyay we stopped at the Freemasons for a can of Bundy each before continuing on. The weather was still very patchy with hard rain at times, followed by drizzle and the occasional dry patch. It pretty much stayed cloudy all day.<\/p>\n

Cutting across to Mundaring we continued to the weir. There is certainly an abundance of tracks throughout this area, although it does look quite popular.<\/p>\n

I’d like to come back and get a picture when the maintenance is completed.<\/p><\/div>\n

From the weir we went down through the gully and onto the Zig Zag. Some of these roads would be a lot of fun in a decent vehicle, and most certainly on a good bike! The sun was in a real bad place when I got to Zig Zag, and coupled with the weather made for some very poor pictures sorry.<\/p>\n

We finished the afternoon off with dinner at the pub. It was bloody good to wind down and explore new areas. I had planned on continuing exploring the coast today (Sunday), but unfortunately work got in the way which totally destroyed those plans. Oh well, there’s always next weekend…..<\/p>\n
