I didn’t get to spend a whole lot of time with the family due to the many fires burning across Tasmania during January, however we managed to sneak away for a couple of afternoons across to Meander and Ulverstone for some time away from the crowds.<\/p>\n

Proof the eldest boys really do have a screw loose. I swear it was passed down from their mother……. \ud83d\ude42<\/p><\/div>\n

I don’t think I’ve ever seen the river that low before. Note the smoke in the distance.<\/p><\/div>\n

We couldn’t continue through to the Meander Falls due to the fire risk at the time. For anyone considering it, it is 5 km’s one way at around a C grade level – i.e. Ethan has done it easily himself. <\/p>\n

Dropping back down the hill we stopped into the dam which is called ‘Huntsman Lake’. We normally take the kids there with their kayaks so they can have some fun – it’s a good safe area for the kids. I’ve thrown a rod in there a few times with the father in law as it’s supposed to be a wild brown trout fishery. Can’t say I’ve ever had any luck compared to sticking with river fishing, or just going up to the Great Lake.<\/p>\n

An enjoyable afternoon at an area that is approximately 1 hour from Launceston or Devonport. Finished off with a couple of Bundy cans to make it all worth it.<\/p>\n

But the kids advised me that this was a ‘better’ option<\/p><\/div>\n

Must admit that it was a great break away from the fires<\/p><\/div>\n

The eldest boys were play fighting. Jess ignored them as per normal<\/p><\/div>\n

Meanwhile Ian was looking after the important job<\/p><\/div>\n

Our home away from home<\/p><\/div>\n

We’ve been to the Ulverstone Beach a few times now, and really enjoyed ourselves each time. I’d say that it was all about the good company, but Ian would get a big head and Wendy would know we are talking about her!!! \ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n
