LCMP (QLD) – Apr 2013

I was fortunate to receive an invitation to join P7 Offroad for a weekend at LCMP approximately 2 hours out of Brisbane. I finished work on Friday arvo and managed to get home and back to the airport in time – there wasn’t much in it. Arriving at Brisbane Sue picked me up and ferried me out to LCMP in her little Defender 90 (yep I travelled in style).

A quick set-up ensued followed by some catching up with guys I haven’t seen for a long time. Bed that night was fantastic. It’s amazing how much sleep you get when there’s no kids & your out bush – absolutely love it!!!

Saturday morning came around quick enough and GT was kind enough to shout me coffee – something he did all weekend actually. And it was really appreciated.

Sue whipped up some breaky and not long after a group of us got together to do some work with P7 Offroad. I won’t go into it too much, but it is so good to spend a day with people having so much experience – and a wide range at that. I don’t think anyone came away without learning a lot that day, and in itself that was well worth the traveling I had done the night prior.

Throughout the day members from the Overlander forum were arriving, with some having to disappear fairly quickly due to prior commitments. Again it was great to catch up with everyone, even if it was a very short g’day.

That night was spent around the campfire talking crap & drinking bundy – the way it should be 🙂

Sunday was a joint venture between TJM & P7 Offroad. Vehicles/People were split into groups with the morning a round-robin friendly competition organised by TJM. From all accounts it was enjoyed immensely by all that participated.

The afternoon was 3 separate activities with P7 Offroad. From some it was a good refresher whilst for others it was their first foray into the off-road world that we all love so much. Again I believe it was thoroughly enjoyed.

After activities were completed it was a really busy time trying to say goodbye to everyone without holding up Ron & Jo, who were good enough to not only give me a lift back into civilisation but also put me up for the night.

After 3 1/2 hours in the vehicle it was a very quiet affair once we arrived, but still enjoyable none the less. Monday came around way too quick and Jo dropped me off at the train station. A quick hello to my cousin Kel (and little Amelia) and the airport followed by the normal delay ended with a very wet Launceston as I got off of the plane.

All in all a very enjoyable weekend and one I was so glad I attended.

Below are some photos of the wombat holes which really show you the flex of the different suspensions, but also showed us the differences between open diffs, left foot braking, traction control systems & diff locks.

Cheers
Chris

P.S – how good is the GT camper 🙂
