Strathgordon

One of many hidden delights in Tasmania. This place is simply stunning – the scenery is truly spectacular. At times you really feel that you are the only one out there. I can’t talk it up enough – you just instantly feel relaxed (even driving a Unimog with no air-con!!!). What can you do out there – hell it’s an outdoor enthusiasts wet dream! Kayak, 4WD, Canoe, fishing, hiking, swimming, camping etc etc. But be warned – when the weather turns it on it can be dangerous as hell if you aren’t prepared.

As per a lot of amazing places in Tassie, this area is part of the hydro scheme. Lake Pedder is Australia’s largest freshwater lake and water catchment system. The dam wall is humbling at for those that are afraid of heights – well this well test you. For those that love to abseil – fork over some money at it’s an adrenaline rush worth seeking. History – yep got that too. The engineering surrounding the wall is mind boggling – well it is too me!

So how did I get out there? Well as mentioned in a Unimog – and yep – I was paid to do it….. Gotta love life sometimes when it deals out the right cards now and again. Unfortunately it was only a day trip, but I’d still take that any day. The pictures below tell the story, but in short there really isn’t many places better in Australia to teach students how to 4WD and drive trucks. The state does have it all…… 🙂
