Sep 2022 – Sydney

Thanks to an unscheduled public holiday we ducked down to Sydney for a very quick trip, basically just to get away for a break. Whilst there we did a couple of quick smaller trips:

Bungarribee Park, Western Sydney Parklands

Les and Helen took us out to the park for Ellie to have a play and for lunch. Whilst there was a heap of shelters, upon investigating we found that 8 are available free of charge (first come, first served) whilst the other 10 are available to hire from $75+ dependant on capacity. There was plenty of BBQs that were free of charge.

Of more importance to Ellie was the playground, which is certainly different to others we have been too. The climbing tower was a bit of fun (even for the bigger kids) and the flying fox was a lot of fun.

Nurragingy Reserve / Chang Lai Yuan Chinese Gardens

After visiting Bungarribee Park, Les took us to the Nurragingy Reserve. If we hadn’t have gone there, I would have had no idea it was there. A couple of playgrounds allowed for Ellie to have some fun whilst I wandered around the gardens. I’m thinking Mum would love spending time in there.

The miniature railway and the water playground weren’t functioning due to (I believe) the wet weather that was around. Picnic shelters here are a first in, first served basis.

Museums Discovery Centre, Castle Hill

A few years ago we visited the Powerhouse Museum in Darling Harbour and thoroughly enjoyed the visit. I discovered (although I was apparently the only one who didn’t know) that there wais a storage site at Castle Hill where there is a whole bunch of “stuff” that is well worth having a look at.

It didn’t cost anything to visit, but parking is limited and it is only open on weekends, 1000-1600h. There are permanent exhibitions and a warehouse that we were fortunate enough to stick our heads into for a short time. It is currently undergoing an expansion that will increse storage by 30 percent – in short over 500,000 objects will be stored here when not on display elsewhere.

Whilst we head down to visit family, it’s amazing the little different things we keep finding. Again a thoroughly enjoyed break from normal day to day stuff
