We managed to slip away just before lunch today. In short we needed a break from home and the short plan was to just head north and have some lunch.
In the past we’ve been able to visit some great places north of us, but we haven’t stopped in at the Frosty Mango before. Everytime we travel past it there’s 3 voices in the back wanting to visit so we thought it was time.
The run north was quite good with no rain on the horizon – a change of late. The passenger seat was the perfect place to enjoy a couple of quiet beverages whilst enjoying the scenery.
The Frosty Mango sell mangoes for some silly reason. Don’t know why they named it that!!!
But in all seriousness it was a bloody good feed. We had some sandwiches for lunch, and then topped it off with mango ice-cream which was bloody fantastic. For the 6 of us it came in just under $50.
After lunch we continued north to take a look at Jourama Falls. I’ve been wanting to get up here for a weekend for quite a while, so it was a good opportunity to have a look around.
What we found was an absolute beauty of a place. NPWS or whatever it’s called up here in QLD have set it up great. After the first water crossing there’s a day use area complete with BBQ, toilets and swimming hole.
After the second crossing there’s a fairly large camping area again with BBQs, toilets and tables. Nice green grass boardered with trees make it easy to set up anything from a tent to a caravan if you so wished.
A tad further up is the walk to the falls. We didn’t do the walk today due to time constraints and the little one was asleep at the time. We wanted to leave something so we had that excuse to go back for a weekend.
Travelling back past the turn-off to Big Creek we came across a dead snake. Now that in itself isn’t anything abnormal, but this particular one looked like it had just had itself a feed. Obviously not moving too quickly it would’ve been hard to miss it on a 100km/h highway. Would’ve gave someone a fright I reckon!
On the way back we stopped in to have a look at the camping area at Bluewater just north of Townsville. This would be another perfect place to stop-over on your way north or south for an over-nighter. There’s a toilet dump point if people require one.
Young Jessica has an assignment for school on community groups, so we stopped to show her over our RFS vehicles and to get some photos. I also took her up to the local QFRS station at Woodlands where one of the fellas was good enough to give her the grand tour.
Overall a quite enjoyable afternoon and well worth getting out of the house for.
Pictures are below.
Cheers
